Taking Antibiotics
****** Reference: September 30, 2002, Precious Pets Newsletter. ***** Diarrhea, abdominal pain, severe inflammation of the colon (colitis), irritable bowel syndrome, skin problems, fever, elevated white blood cell count, weak immune system, vomiting, dehydration, potassium deficiencies, allergies, colon perforation, bad breath, excess stomach gas, yeast problems, nutritional deficiencies and constipation are just some of the many side effects and problems linked to antibiotics. When antibiotics are used, both good and bad bacteria are destroyed in the intestinal tract. Once the antibiotics are stopped, the bad bacteria grows back first and faster. The result is a very unhealthy and weak body with no friendly bacteria. The body should have 80% friendly bacteria and about 20% bad bacteria inside the intestinal tract.
After the use of antibiotics, the body will have no more than 20% friendly bacteria and 80% bad bacteria if not more. Most illness, disease and problems begin in the intestinal tract. Thus, antibiotics create the potential for serious illness to begin. Yogurt or kefir contains lactobacillus acidophilus, which is a beneficial bacterium normally produced by the intestinal tract. Acidophilus creates an environment that is undesirable for fungi and microbes to grow. It also contains weak antibiotic substances called colicine.
Yogurt does aid digestion of B complex vitamins, some amino acid, fat and milk. Yogurt offers protection against contamination of food or water supplies when traveling to different areas when fed with each meal. Breeders often feed acidophilus capsules to their breeding animals during gestation, lactation and until the puppies are weaned to prevent fading puppy syndrome. Yogurt should be fed any time a pet is on antibiotics because they will kill the acidophilus naturally present in the gut and will create an ideal environment for the growth of yeast and fungi in the intestines.
This is true for people too!! If the lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria are not replenished by feeding your pet yogurt or acidophilus capsules, fungus can also grow in the lungs, vagina, mouth and on the front and rear paws. In fact, yogurt can be fed anytime PERIOD! It is an excellent source of protein, calcium, riboflavin and vitamin B 12. When yogurt is compared to milk, yogurt contains more calcium and protein because of the added cultures in the yogurt. The bacteria in yogurt help digest food and prevent stomach infections. Also, they help to provide relief from vaginal infections. Yogurt also helps boost the immune system. Sound familiar?
