The Devon Rex originated in Devon county in England, ten years after the development of the Cornish Rex. Different mutant genes produced the two different species of Rex cats. At first some North American associations did not recognize the Devon & Cornish Rexes as two distinct breeds but finally in 1979 separate breed status was given.

The Devon Rex has an unmistakable head shape that is unique in pedigree cats. Its short nose prominent whisker pads, huge ears and wide cheek boning give them a pixie-like appearance. the slender long-legged body is hard and muscular.

The soft, curly coat has a wavy effect and comes in a wide variety of colours and patterns. They are very easy to groom and do not constantly shed hear. Hand grooming - a firm stroking from neck to tail is sometimes all that is needed but a once a week once over lightly grooming with a comb is recommended.

The Devon makes an intelligent, extroverted, affectionate pet. Sometimes playful; sometimes mischievous, and always devoted to the family.
