What kind of membership should I get?

There are two major categories of CCA-AFC membership. Let's break them down!

  • Regular (Voting) Memberships include all our benefits and services, plus voting rights at our Annual General Meeting and 1 breed section vote. If you are actively involved in CCA-AFC and want the ability to vote on rule changes and submit motions at our meetings, please choose this membership type.
  • Supporting (Non-Voting) Memberships include all our benefits and services, without voting rights at our Annual General Meeting or breed section voting rights. If you are interested in CCA-AFC but are not interested in attending our meetings or voting on changes to our rules, please choose this membership type.

Both Regular and Supporting Memberships can be either Breeder and Non-Breeder memberships. Breeder memberships include the right to register litters and kittens, and purchase cattery ads. Non-breeder memberships do not get discounts on these services.

There are also discounts for two adults who live at the same residence (2-Person Memberships), and there is a special non-voting Junior membership available for children under the age of 18 who are interested in CCA-AFC.

How do I Join?

Frequently Asked Questions

Are memberships for people, or for cats?

Memberships are purchased for people, and they expire every year. Registrations are purchased for cats, and they are permanent.

How do I register my cattery?

Catteries are different from memberships. To register a cattery name, submit your completed Cattery Name Application to register@cca-afc.com along with the current fee.

When do memberships expire?

All memberships expire on December 31 of each year and must be renewed before January 31 for you to remain in good standing. Memberships purchased after October 1 receive 3 months free and expire the following December.

How do I create a website account?

New user accounts are created by the office. Your information will be sent to you along with your member card. If you have an account and cannot log in, please check with us to ensure that your membership is up-to-date, as accounts are frozen when memberships expire.

Can I advertise my cattery on your website?

Yes, the ability to purchase Breeder Advertisements is a major benefit of CCA-AFC membership. Please make sure to indicate how many breeder ads you wish to purchase when you complete your membership form. There is a $10 discount for renewing members who purchase breeder ads at the same time as their renewal.

Once you have submitted your membership form, please make sure to complete the Breeder Advertising Form and e-mail that to office@cca-afc.com. Fees can be paid along with your membership.

Is this a breeder license?

No, a CCA-AFC membership is not a legal license to breed cats. It offers no exemption or protection from your local laws regarding animal licensing and ownership. Please consult your local authority (municipal, provincial, etc.) for any information on legal regulations and requirements for breeding cats in your area. CCA-AFC is not liable for the actions of its members regarding adherence to licensing and regulation laws.

There are three or more people in my household who want to become members. What memberships do we purchase?

You can purchase multiple memberships per household, so you can mix-and-match as appropriate. If at least two of you are over 18, and reside at the same address, you can purchase a 2-Person Membership. All individuals under 18 must purchase Junior Memberships, so a family of 2 adults and 2 children would purchase a 2-Person Membership and 2 Junior Memberships.

Can I purchase extra breed section voting rights?

Yes! Qualified members can purchase additional breed section voting rights for $2 per breed, for up to 2 additional breeds. Please note that if a breed has multiple divisions (ex. Scottish Fold and Straight, Exotic Shorthair and Longhair, and Siberian and Pointed Siberian), they are considered one breed section for voting purposes.

I purchased a non-voting/non-breeder membership, but now I would like to change my membership mid-year. Can I do this?

Yes, you can pay the balance of the membership in order to upgrade to a different membership type. However, the date on which you pay the upgrade will be the date from which your breeder or voting rights begin. This may affect your ability to vote in elections.

I purchased a voting/breeder membership, but now I would like to downgrade my membership mid-year. Can I do this?

No, memberships cannot be downgraded mid-year.

Can I cancel my membership?

No, memberships cannot be cancelled or refunded.

Do I need to be a member to enter CCA-AFC cat shows?

No, it is not required that you are a member in order to enter one of our shows. However, we strongly recommend that you do so in order to claim your discount on registering your cats with us, claiming your titles, and more.

Does the 50% services discount include cat shows?

Our 50% discount applies only to services purchased directly from CCA-AFC, and not show entry fees. Services include cat registrations, litter registrations, transfers, corrections and changes, and title claim fees.
